PART 1

Introduction and Interview

Answer familiar questions naturally and directly.

Topic 1 · Home and Accommodation

Do you live in a house or an apartment?

Sample Answer

I live in an apartment with one roommate. It’s fairly small, but it’s close to my workplace and public transport, so the location is very convenient.

What’s your favorite room in your home?

Sample Answer

My favorite room is the living room because it gets the most natural light. I usually relax there after work, watch videos, or have dinner with my roommate.

Would you like to move to a different place in the future?

Sample Answer

Yes, probably. In the future I’d like a slightly bigger apartment with a quieter neighborhood and maybe a balcony, but I’m happy with my current place for now.

Topic 2 · Zephyr

Do you enjoy gentle breezes?

Sample Answer

Yes, I do, especially when the weather is warm. A gentle breeze makes being outside much more comfortable and can make a hot day feel less tiring.

What is the perfect breeze like?

Sample Answer

For me, the perfect breeze is cool and light, not strong enough to blow things around. I like it most in the late afternoon when the temperature starts to drop.

How does weather affect your mood?

Sample Answer

It affects me quite a lot. Bright, mild weather usually gives me more energy, while several days of heavy rain can make me feel a little lazy and less willing to go out.

Topic 3 · Internet

How often do you use the internet?

Sample Answer

I use it every day, both for work and for personal things. I’m online for several hours in total, although not continuously.

What do you usually do online?

Sample Answer

I usually message people, watch videos, read news, shop online and look up information. I also use the internet for work, so a large part of my day depends on it.

Do you think the internet has changed communication?

Sample Answer

Definitely. People can contact each other almost instantly now, even across different countries. Communication is faster and easier, although sometimes online messages can also feel less personal than speaking face to face.

PART 2

Long Turn

Speak continuously and develop the cue card as one natural response.

CUE CARD

Describe a time you received good service

You should say:
  • Where it happened
  • Who provided the service
  • What they did well
  • Why you were impressed
Sample Answer

One time I received really good service was at a small phone repair shop near my apartment. My phone suddenly stopped charging properly, and I was worried because I use it for both work and everyday communication. The person who helped me was the technician working at the front desk. I expected him to tell me that I needed an expensive replacement part, but instead he checked the charging port carefully and explained what he was doing. He found that the problem was mostly caused by dust and a slightly loose connection. He cleaned it, tested several cables, and showed me that the phone was charging normally again. What impressed me most was that he was patient and honest. He could easily have tried to sell me a repair I didn’t need, but he charged me only a small service fee. He also gave me a few simple tips about keeping the port clean and avoiding damaged cables. The whole visit probably took less than half an hour, but I remembered it because the service felt trustworthy rather than purely commercial. I later recommended the shop to a friend who had a similar problem, and I’d definitely go back there if I needed another repair.

ROUND-OFF QUESTION

Is this experience still important to you now?

Sample Answer

Yes, mainly because it changed what I expect from good service. I still remember how much I valued the technician’s honesty and clear explanation.

PART 3

Discussion

Develop your ideas with reasons, examples, comparisons or qualifications where they fit.

Discussion Theme 1 · Customer Service and Consumer Expectations

What qualities are needed to provide excellent service?

Sample Answer

Patience, communication and honesty are probably the most important qualities. Staff need to understand what the customer actually needs and explain solutions clearly, especially when something goes wrong. They also need enough knowledge to solve the problem efficiently. A friendly attitude helps, but friendliness alone isn’t enough if the employee gives inaccurate information or makes promises that the company can’t keep.

Should schools or workplaces do more to teach service skills?

Sample Answer

Yes, I think practical service skills deserve more attention, especially in workplaces where employees deal directly with customers. People can learn how to listen, explain things calmly and handle complaints without becoming defensive. Schools could teach some basic communication skills as well, but employers should still provide job-specific training because customer expectations vary a lot between industries.

Discussion Theme 2 · Work Attitude and Professionalism

Why is attitude important in service jobs?

Sample Answer

Attitude matters because customers often judge the whole company through one employee. Even if a problem can’t be solved immediately, a patient and respectful worker can make the situation much easier. In contrast, someone who sounds annoyed can make a small issue feel much worse. A good attitude also affects teamwork, because service staff often need help from colleagues to solve customer problems.

Should employers value soft skills as much as technical skills?

Sample Answer

Yes, although the balance depends on the job. Technical skills are essential because employees need to do the work correctly, but soft skills affect how well they communicate, cooperate and respond under pressure. For a customer-facing role, someone with excellent technical knowledge but poor communication may create unnecessary conflict. Ideally, employers should look for both and provide training where one area is weaker.
