PART 1

Introduction and Interview

Answer familiar questions naturally and directly.

Topic 1 · Work

What do you do for work?

Sample Answer

I work in a small marketing team for an online company. My job mainly involves writing website content, checking campaign results, and helping update product pages.

What do you like about your job?

Sample Answer

I like that the work changes from day to day. Sometimes I’m writing, and other times I’m looking at data or solving a website problem, so it doesn’t feel too repetitive.

What skills are important in your work?

Sample Answer

Clear communication is important because I work with different people. I also need to be organized and comfortable learning new tools, since online marketing platforms change quite often.

Topic 2 · Collecting Books

Do you collect books?

Sample Answer

Yes, but only a small collection. I keep books that I really enjoyed or want to read again, rather than buying books just because they look good on a shelf.

What kind of books do you like collecting?

Sample Answer

I mostly collect history books and travel writing. I like books that tell real stories about places or events, especially when the writer has actually experienced what they’re describing.

Why do some people collect books?

Sample Answer

Some people enjoy the physical object itself, especially beautiful editions or rare books. Others collect them because the books represent memories, interests, or different stages of their lives.

Topic 3 · Watching Documentaries

Do you watch documentaries?

Sample Answer

Yes, quite regularly. I probably watch one or two documentaries a month, usually when I want something more informative than a normal film or series.

What documentary topics interest you?

Sample Answer

I’m most interested in history, science, and nature. I also like documentaries about unusual jobs or communities because they show parts of life that I wouldn’t normally see.

Do documentaries help you learn?

Sample Answer

Definitely. A good documentary can make a complicated topic easier to understand because it combines explanations with real images and examples. I still like reading afterwards if I want more detail.

PART 2

Long Turn

Speak continuously and develop the cue card as one natural response.

CUE CARD

Describe a famous person you would like to meet

You should say:
  • Who the person is
  • Why they are famous
  • What you would talk about
  • Why you want to meet them
Sample Answer

A famous person I’d really like to meet is David Attenborough, the British broadcaster and natural historian. He’s best known for presenting wildlife documentaries, and I’ve watched many of them since I was a teenager. What I find impressive is not only his voice or presentation style, but also the amount of change he has seen in the natural world during his lifetime. If I had the chance to meet him, I’d ask what place or animal surprised him most after so many years of traveling. I’d also like to hear what he thinks ordinary people misunderstand about climate change and conservation. I imagine his answers would be much more interesting than something I could get from a short interview online. I want to meet him because he seems genuinely curious, even after decades of working in the same broad field. He has also helped make science and nature accessible to people who aren’t specialists. I don’t expect the conversation to be very long, and I’d probably be nervous at first, but I think it would be memorable. More than getting a photo or an autograph, I’d want the chance to ask a few thoughtful questions and simply listen to his experiences.

ROUND-OFF QUESTION

Is this person still important to you now?

Sample Answer

Yes, he is. I still watch his programs occasionally, and I admire the way he communicates serious environmental issues without making them feel impossible to understand.

PART 3

Discussion

Develop your ideas with reasons, examples, comparisons or qualifications where they fit.

Discussion Theme 1 · Fame and Public Influence

Do you think being famous brings more advantages or disadvantages?

Sample Answer

It brings both, but the disadvantages can become quite serious once a person loses privacy. Fame can create opportunities, money, and influence, and it may allow someone to work with people they admire. On the other hand, strangers may judge their appearance, relationships, and mistakes constantly. Even normal activities can attract attention. I think moderate recognition might be enjoyable, but extreme fame could make everyday life stressful and difficult to control.

How has social media changed the relationship between celebrities and the public?

Sample Answer

Social media has made the relationship much more direct. Celebrities can speak to millions of people without going through television stations or newspapers, and fans can respond immediately. That can make public figures seem more accessible and human. However, it also creates pressure to share personal details and react to criticism quickly. Fans may feel they know a celebrity personally even though the relationship is one-sided, which can blur healthy boundaries.

Discussion Theme 2 · Role Models and Public Attention

Is talent more important than personality in becoming popular?

Sample Answer

Talent is important because it gives people a reason to pay attention in the first place, especially in music, sport, or acting. However, personality can affect whether that attention lasts. Someone who communicates well, seems relatable, or handles interviews confidently may build a stronger public following. On social media, personality can sometimes matter even more than traditional talent. So I don’t think one factor always wins; it depends on the field and the audience.

What qualities make a public figure worth admiring?

Sample Answer

For me, the most admirable public figures are competent, consistent, and responsible about the influence they have. They don’t need to be perfect, but they should be willing to admit mistakes and avoid pretending to know everything. I also respect people who continue improving their work rather than relying only on fame. If they use some of their attention to support worthwhile causes, that’s positive too, as long as it feels genuine rather than purely promotional.
